Manifestation of Delusions

Psychology V Delusion

By: GhostDante1, Co-Founder of the Halifax Paranormal Investigations, Editor of the Halifax Paranormal Blog

In my Abnormal Psychology classes in university, we covered a section that could also be interpreted in the paranormal world as well, this being the unsettling topic of manifestation and delusions -- both which can be confused with possession and/or paranormal activity in a person(s) or personal dwelling (house, warehouse, abandoned building, ruined castle, prison, asylum) etc where death has occurred.

Hauntings by spirits, elemental, shadow figures, poltergeists and/or demons or otherwise are not just bound to places of violence or disturbance; sometimes reports of a haunting has to be carefully dissected with an aura of skepticism in order to cover all the possibilities before proceeding with an investigation.

These include, but are not limited to:

  • Prior alcohol or substance abuse which could cause negative entities to be drawn to you, or perhaps cause psychological stress on the mind, resulting in the delusion of a haunting
  • Violence or abuse in the family, and this includes child abuse or neglect as well, once again resulting in the possibility of psychological distress
  • Religious backgrounds and misinterpretation of paranormal activity due to one's beliefs
  • Any recent events in a clients personal life that could lead to he or she becoming open to paranormal activity happening in their home, such as a trauma in the family or the practice of the occult without an understanding of the consequences of such actions. This is more often than not, the result of he or she playing with a Ouija or "spirit board" and inadvertently opening a doorway to the afterlife (heaven, limbo or hell) and not understanding what could come through.
A person or investigator with no knowledge of the paranormal could be followed home by an entity from a separate location (asylum, cemetery) etc resulting in a haunting. Suffice it to say, be it psychological or an acknowledged haunting which a religious rite such as house blessing or exorcism must be performed can happen by any means.

Alternatively to that, there is also the underlying psychological part of that equation -- this going back to my opening comment on manifestation and delusion. Poltergeists are among these. Negative emotions, in particular to strong emotions; like fear for example -- or worry or stress or insomnia if left untreated by a medical doctor or psychiatrist can manifest into external energy with physical effects. Multiple Personality Disorder, or now referred to as Dis-associative Identity Disorder (DID)  or Schizophrenia are good examples of negative emotion left unchecked resulting in the manifestation of delusions, and in extreme cases the subject is then incarcerated in a mental health facility due to the physical trauma he or she would inflict on their bodies (cuts to the arm, self flagellation, attempted suicide, substance abuse, or other self inflicted wounds) in an attempt to "heal" the subject from the mental disturbance afflicting them.

This can also be misinterpreted by religious scholars or otherwise for signs of possession, when it isn't.  Nightmares have, in some cases; been shown to trigger physical manifestations, due to delusions. However, such phenomena do not appear to happen to just anyone. Although it is not clear why, adolescents, especially young children are prone to such occurrences; which leads to the universal thought that children are more in tuned and more open to paranormal phenomena than adults are; given their young ages and closer to death than we are (ex: the sixth sense) or ability to commune, both audible and visual manifestation of the dead.

With all this said, the debate in both the scientific world of psychology, and the alternative world of para-psychology will always be just that, a subject left open to debate.

Stop SOPA, End Piracy!

Blackouts? Not for US!

By: GhostDante1, Co-Founder of the Halifax Paranormal Investigations, Editor of the Halifax Paranormal Blog

As many of you are aware, as of today Wikipedia, accompanied by Google, Mozilla, Wordpress, and Reddit and so on, have all decided collectively to force themselves into a 24 hour online blackout to protest against the American Government's decision to change the infrastructure of web-based browsing, and free research information via bills that Congress are trying to pass.

With this said, expect the net and other social media outlets such as Twitter and/or Facebook primarily to be blowing up with users expressing their points of views on the #stopSOPA and #EndPiracy trends taking the media world by storm.

Due to today's blackout movements, we here at Halifax Paranormal Investigations will be closely monitoring the progress of the protests, and social media/web blackouts; but want to assure all of you that there will be NO blackout for this blog, or ghostbusting group!

If these bills are approved by Congress; it'll not only end the hundred+ years we have enjoyed the chartered freedoms of speech ensured to us as a "free" North American continent (Canada included); but end freedom of web-based speech as well and affect how universities and public schools nationwide conduct research -- this loss cannot be afforded. weblink to the developing story on the blackouts!

Rest assured that Halifax Paranormal will always be here to search, seek and hunt for the truth of the unexplained, be it through a blackout crisis or not. We will blog and tweet more as the day progresses, so stay tuned!

Fire Destroys 100 Year old Church: Natural Accident or Act of God?

By: GhostDante1, Co-Founder of Halifax Paranormal Investigations, Editor of the Halifax Paranormal Blog

Good Evening, Blog Lovers,

It seems that the curse of Friday the 13th, a day which according to a long-standing tradition that is as old as mankind itself, is associated with phobia, fear, accidents and misfortune; has struck the small town of Waterside, New Brunswick; (Riverside-Albert) as lightning strikes a 110 year old Baptist Church; (circa 1900 approximate establish) on route 915 around 23h30 when firefighters responded to the site., causing it to burn to the ground -- also due to the intensity of the strike it caused debris to be hurled into the air, as well as a subsequent hole in the wrought-iron fence surrounding a nearby Catholic cemetery, the church in question is located only 53 kilometers from Moncton, NB.

Was it a natural accident in a random location, or perhaps act of God?

According to the CBC News,

"One of our members lives probably three or four kilometers away from the actual church, he felt the tremor from the impact at his place," fire chief Peter Murphy said."

Only the church bell was salvageable from the burned wreckage. It is a sad loss for the community of Waterside, NB; but considering the coincidental timing of the lightning strike; can one argue a divine intervention of "act of God", or perhaps a sign from above to end the reign of an abandoned House of God?

One could say that the perspective of the supernatural could be likely to cause a church to burnt into a ball of flames in lieu of the 2012 End of Days/Mayan conspiracy theorists; where our faith in God will be tested; but perhaps God wanted to send the message to His children that the Church of Man, is doomed to burn by divine intervention, leading us to turn to Heaven in prayer and belief in order to be saved when the rapture happens.

Considering that a hole was blasted into the fence of a cemetery, can lead to a school of thought that the souls that were resting are now free to wander in the mortal world. Due to the damage on Friday, the community is now considering establishing a monument and/or expanding the cemetery grounds.

In the opinion of us at Halifax Paranormal Investigations, we believe that bad things happen to random people and places on Friday the 13th, and perhaps the belief in a "curse", which began as far back as the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and the burning of the Knights Templar in the 1500's; that the numerology of 13, a number traditionally associated with misfortune; according to suggests,

"The number 13 brings the test, the suffering and the death. It symbolizes the death to the matter or to oneself and the birth to the spirit: the passage on a higher level of existence."

We, as human beings either religiously faithful, atheist or skeptical will be tested and our belief in what is possible in the realm of the supernatural, and in the power of God either benign or maniacal will suffer, until our faith in a higher plane of existence. Because of the church burning, it has strengthened the community and and increased their faith, despite the dark divine intervention from above.

Exorcism v Mental Illness v Possession?

Our POV on The Devil Inside and its Claims on Exorcism and Demonic Possession

By: GhostDante1, Co-Founder of the Halifax Paranormal Investigations, Editor of the Halifax Paranormal Blog

OK, so JG and I saw "The Devil Inside" movie last night, and apart from the amateur looking "shaky cam" documentary feel to the movie, our first impressions were that it was the most in-depth, and deeply disturbing film about Exorcism, possibly ever made. Although the movie claims that the Holy Church in Rome (Vatican) has ceased the practice of Exorcism, a practice that is believed by many religions worldwide, primarily in the Christian Faith; and banned the ritual in 1999 "first time in 400 years" the film claims -- the film does focus on the thin blue line between mental illness and possession. Rome does have a "school for exorcism" which focuses on theory, as opposed to the ancient rite of battle with the demonic.

In today's world, mental illness is the number one explanation for many of religion's skeletons in the closet, in particular exorcism and possession by demonic forces. It's true that victims who have been "afflicted" supposedly with possession and have undergone the exorcism ritual have died due to cases of malnutrition and starvation; or from the stress of psychological trauma imposed on the body. (see Exorcism of Annalise Michel, the German girl who inspired the film Exorcism of Emily Rose for a better understanding). The Vatican and the Holy See collectively like to cover-up and condone the existence of exorcism, and consider it illegal to practice without consent and protection of the church's jurisdiction. It's easy to mistake demonic possession for mental illness, such as epilepsy for example as the skeptics would say.

A well known, and famous case where demonic possession was a possibility as the motive was the Amittyville Horror House crime scene case in 1974 where Ronald DeFeo, Jr. brutally murdered his entire family while they slept; claiming he heard the voices of the demonic telling him to do it, asking the question of possession or simply a deep burning hatred for the family que? Thirteen months later, in December 1975; George and wife Kathy Lutz and family moved into the same house, and according to witness statements were plagued by a dark, demonic force in the house. To this day, there has been no definitive conclusion as to what truly happened in that house. Could exorcism or a house-blessing have culled the demonic forces?

Who's to say?

For an exorcism to be performed on an individual who may be possessed, the Holy See has to verify that upon request from the Archbishop of that particular parish who is making the claims. Sometimes exorcisms can take from days, to years. The Holy Church condemns the video-taping and audio-recording of the ancient rite. As it was said in the film "The Devil Inside", there are different forms of demons who all answer to the one, the "CEO" of Hell, Lucifier/Satan who's name when translated means "angel" or "bringer of light". Lucifier was an arch-angel who wanted to become God, and when he rebelled against Heaven, he was kicked out and demonized, then locked in the prison of fire along with several other fallen angels who rebelled with him after the war in Heaven by archangel Michael for a thousand years.

Suffice it to say, this army of fallen angels reverted to becoming demons, and can sometimes infest a single individual at one time on a massive-scale, forming a Legion or "multiple demonic possession(s)" For "The Devil Inside", we at Halifax Paranormal can clearly see why the Vatican did not endorse the movie's production; simply put, they'd probably wish that this film, and the true to life claims of real events that it is based on were left quieted. A Legion can also jump from one individual to another, as well many victims who are truly possessed can manifest an innocent guise to try and fool the priesthood into thinking that the dark force haunting them has left.

Some of the claims of "signs of possession" that "The Devil Inside" made were enlarged pupils (over 9mm, the standard of human eye-sight), enhanced almost superhuman strength and knowledge, the ability to speak in multiple voice pitch and languages, the blaspheming and violent outbursts to religious objects such as crosses, the bible, holy water and a priest and so on. With this said, exorcism can also be easily mistook for DID or Dis-Associative Identity Disorder or in layman's terms "multiple personality disorder", sometimes causing the afflicted person to be incarcerated in a mental health institution instead of being treated for possession.

With all this said, this is just our own opinion on the topic of exorcism, mental illness and the "Devil Inside" film. Please feel free to form your own opinions and feedback. Leave a comment, read the blog or tweet us and tell us what you think about the dark subject of exorcism and demonic possession.

Still Going Strong in the Face of Obscurity!

By: GhostDante1, Co-Founder of the Halifax Paranormal Investigations, Editor of the Halifax Paranormal Blog

Our Mission Statement

After careful discussion and debate, we have chosen to NOT delete the Facebook public forums, blog forums and twitter feed for Halifax Paranormal.

We are our own organization that is slowly learning to stand on our own two feet, and as far as we see it; it's learn by experience; and not what other people say. Criticism is just that, a critique of something someone does. I'm pretty sure that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms clearly states the Freedom of Speech Act for all Canadian citizens.

Henceforth, we have added a disclaimer on the blog stating that our experiences and accounts of the paranormal are all our own, and do not reflect that our the client(s) who may or may not be involved in a subsequent investigation.

Every Paranormal group learns by itself on it's own, and so what if our opinions are thought to be one sided, and not open to debate and possibilities; the realm of the paranormal, supernatural and unexplained is still in infancy and always open to debate regardless.

We will continue to feed the public's fascination of the paranormal with our updates, and case claims, evidence and so on; and as far as we see it -- we may be a small unit, but we will learn big.
The dead, be them 5th dimension beings, ghosts, demons, shadow figures, angels and or whatever have a story to tell the living world...and we are ready to listen.

Future Investigation?

New Ground for the Paranormal?

While my girlfriend and I were driving home earlier tonight, I pointed out in puzzlement the row of abandoned, darkened apartments in Dartmouth's North End, just adjacent to the Mackay Bridge; bordered by Tufts Cove, the BIO; and the Canadian Coast Guard, this being the shadowy Shannon Park - which used to be old CFB military housing, built roughly in the 1950's to accommodate Navy personnel during WW2, which was abandoned in 2004, now left to decay, forgotten by the expanding municipality.

Hence forth, Halifax Paranormal will be in the pre-planning stages of a possible overnight investigation there in the near future.

Exorcism in History v Film

Good Afternoon, our Loyal Readers...

Although this Friday's theatrical release of The Devil Inside is a work of fiction supposedly based on true events, one thing is true...and that is the Roman Catholic Church doesn't authorize the recording of or video taping of exorcism; or any kind of religious rite of spiritual deliverance against demonic forces.

Although the true facts about the film are not known, and possibly withheld intentionally by the Holy See and the Vatican Church, what is clear is that Exorcism itself has been around for as long as man has established the Catholic Church on Earth.

The Vatican in the past 20 years has increased the number of trained Exorcists, from once a sparse number of a dozen, to now over 300+; yet disavows the existance of the Devil on earth. Traditionally, the religious rite uses to combat demonic forces is called the "Rituale Romanum", and as seen in prior cases, a victim can be infested with four or more demons forming a Legion.

A priest who practices exorcism outside of the Church's consent is considered a rogue. Another tidbit for you, the practice of Exorcism began with Christ Himself, and the ritual can go on for years as the church battles for the victim's soul. In recent years, the reports of alleged demonic paranormal activity has increased.

Dead Birds...A Sign of the End?

Good Morning, and Happy New Year, Paranormal Community!

As many of you have probably heard by now in the latest headlines from the American media, an estimated total of 5000 dead black birds, have fallen from the sky in Beebe, Arkansas, to kick off the start of the 2012 new year. Just like the year prior, hundreds of perfectly healthy black birds befell the community of Little Rock, Arkansas -- perhaps due to too many fireworks being set off in celebration of the New Years Eve festivities, causing heart-attacks?

The following video is provided by the "American Morning" segment on, dated 1/1/2012:

Without a concrete explanation, authorities in Beebe, Ark formally banned residents from firing off fireworks due to the corpses falling from the heavens, but yet one has to think...the conspiracy theorists have already jumped on the bandwagon with this unexplained event and given credence to the rumored 2012 Mayan Calender "end of days" perception of the world coming to an "end"?  If this is true, then there must be a larger paranormal reasoning for Starling, and Black Bird deaths? On Monday, the "mass mortality" event related to Arkansas, was Louisiana was 500 birds falling from the sky.

The following video is taken from

Such as the case the year earlier, as the first day approached in its wee hours, birds would suddenly awaken from their roosting alcoves, only to die and fall on humanity...dead. Police stated that the first incident reports of the dead birds started around 19h00 (7pm GMT); forcing the city-wide ban on fireworks, as authorities worked with animal control to collect the corpses and determine cause of death.

Others believe poisoning of the birds, or perhaps....something far more sinister this way comes?

Source for below video:

This event, CTV News reports coupled with the hundreds of dead drum fish that had washed up in the Arkansas River, causes some speculation of an apocalypse-like event brought on by God, or perhaps ancient predictions of an End of Days that is beyond our control. As the media pointed out, it was probably the confusing crack and boom of fireworks that sent the foul into a frenzy of cardiac-arrest, and crashing into police vehicles, houses and so on.

Another theory of probability for the conspiracy theorists is the testing of military weaponary, in particular of the HAARP facility, outside of Fairbanks, Alaska, which experiments with weather-manipulation, and atmospheric/harmonic manipulation technology for American BLACK projects. Whose to say, really? All one can say is, if the birds themselves continue to fall in record numbers yearly with the annual eve of the New Year approaching it will ultimately deplete the migratory nature of birds to the southern states during the winter months; throwing the whole Natural Order into chaos.

With climate-change and global warming quickly becoming a hot-topic these days, one has to wonder about this puzzling question; is it a paranormal event based on prophecy that  caused these birds over the last two years now to suddenly rain down on man, or is it simply another sign of the Earth changing due to climate-change?
